Description
Create your own handwoven circular wall hanging in an inspired and relaxing atmosphere. You’ll learn the basics of warping and weaving on a circular hoop (which becomes the finished frame for easy hanging) receive 2.5 hours of hands-on-instruction, plenty of ideas and encouragement. Simple instructional worksheet and basic supplies included for further exploration and weaving. BYOY (bring your own chunky yarn) encouraged and alternative/upcycled fibers if you’d like. Techniques covered: warping any sized hoop and finishing rya knots, plain weave, soumak weave (fishtail braid) and a handful of techniques, tips and tricks to explore pattern, shape and texture. Though you likely will not finish your weaving in class, you’ll have in class demos plus a simple instructional handout to feel confident finishing on your own. If you bring fibers from home, here are some suggestions:
- Scrap yarn from your stash
- Fabric/clothing/denim, “yarn” strips
- Frogged sweaters or thrift finds
- Botanicals like grasses or flowers
- Plastic bag yarn, cassette tape, ribbon
