Description

We will weave a small bean pot basket that features a wire handle with a wooden grip.  The basket base is approximately 5 inches in diameter, 6 and 1/2 inches at the top, and the “belly” circumference at its widest measures approximately 21 inches. Students will learn how to identify the right and wrong side of a piece of reed, and will become familiar with terms to describe various types and sizes of reed. Students will learn how to twine a round basket base, how to split a spoke to allow for continuous weaving, and will practice basic shaping to achieve the bean pot shape. They will also learn how to cut and tuck spokes, lash the basket rim, and attach the handle.
